Okay, I have thought a lot about this and reread the rules from Realms of Cthluhu several times.
Given the new SW-SIF system I have introduced, every single person is now assumed to have Guts d6 (as it is a simple Will roll).
In actual Deadlands - Savage Worlds it is a skill and therefore only those that invest in it get a chance.
I reckon a lot is lost by the average Joe now having a fair Guts check, BUT I do believe the Insanity from Realms of Cthulhu would go a long way to addressing that.
There are chances for longer lasting effects and the system plays out a little better than a simple roll on the Fear Table.
It basically works like the Wounds system, but for your Mental Toughness.
The interplay between going a 'little of the rails' and developing a mental illness is quite cool.
We would need to add a new Specialty to the Healing Ability - something along the lines of Treat Mental Illness (unless someone has a better name) allowing people to make checks to help another 'steel their nerve'.
That is the easy part. I have gone back and forth on whether this Specialty should be limited to those that take it, or letting anyone try a Healing roll to 'treat mental damage'.
I have settled on allowing anyone to attempt it, just like anyone can 'attempt' to repair physical injuries. Sometimes, just a reassuring voice can help people who have been frightened/unsettled.
It could even be used to remove Shaken n certain circumstances.
I am not usually for complicating things, but I honestly think adding this system is PERFECT for Deadlands.
So, what do you guys think?
