The Great Northwest PCs

Francis Scott - 'The Mountain Man'

MountainMan

Mountain Man (played by Angus)

Features:
Brawny and rugged; Great outdoors man and athletic; Not very good in 'civilised' situations; Bad with mechanical stuff; Heavy sleeper.

Background:
Francis is a hunter and guide that grew up in western Idaho with his small family of ranchers. He took to the mountains at an early age when his father taught him to hunt.
He has spent considerable time with the Bannock Indians. Members of this tribe nursed him back to health after a fall when he was on the trail of a bigfoot in the mountains of southeast Oregon. He remains friendly to and sympathetic most Indians' causes to this day, except the Shoshone. After another large hunt into northern Oregon, he returned to his home to find it burnt to the ground and his family killed. He detected signs of the Shoshone and others reported such a war band was in the area.
He has learned a lot about the wilds from his Indian allies though. This has allowed him to finally track and site a hairy bigfoot in central Idaho about one year ago. He did not hunt the being, as his Indian allies have made it very clear the bigfeet or ‘brothers-of-the-forest’ are non-aggressive.
Francis is well known along the Oregon Trail west of Boise and is simply known as ‘The Mountain Man’. He is only too willing to prove to non-believers that bigfeet exist by willing to take them into the wilds and show them. Most turn yellow at the thought and refuse or never show up at the designated meeting time when it’s time to set out.

Personality:
Is sympathetic to the Indians (other than the murderous Shoshone); Willing to take soft city dwellers away from their comforts into the wilds - he is even willing to take them to see the bigfeet.

Gaming Goals:
To prove to all the doubters that there are bigfeet out there, but at the same time he doesn't want harm to come to them. (He certainly doesn't want to see them rounded up and put on reservations or stuck in traveling freak shows).

Important Items: Rifle; Warm clothes.

Wish List:

Advancement:
Novice Edges: Courageous; Iron Jaw; Nerves of Steal; Combat Reflexes.

Hank Snow

HankSnow

Ex-Law man (played by Aidan)

Features:
Excellent shot including capable duelist; Good rider; Agile and quick; Honest as the day is long; Not much of a 'people-person'; Fit and hardy; Strong-willed; Rich; Allergic to cats; Phobia of snakes; Fights with pistols, inc his trademark Colt Peacemaker, Justice.
Background:
Hank’s story starts way down in Wichita, Kansas, where he served as sheriff.
Whilst in this position, local congressman Ross Waite backed the outlaw Sam Bennett to set up a highway robbery gang to raise more funds for, get this, local law enforcement! Of course the funds were ‘misappropriated’ and used for Waite’s own political ends.
Being the local law, of course Hank went after this band of highwaymen. In saving a mail coach from the gang, Hank was wounded, but even worse, his deputy and good friend, David Myers, was killed.
Hank raised a posse of irate locals and went after the Bennett Gang. Hank’s posse caught the gang at a camp on a small creek and in the gun battle that ensured Hank and his posse got the upper hand. Unfortunately, Sam Bennett escaped the fray.
Upon his return to Wichita, Hank was personally and publically congratulated by congressman Waite. Having seen through the ruse, Hank refused any gratitude and threw his badge at Waite’s feet.
Hank had vowed to find Bennett if it took him to Hell itself… and it almost has – Hank now finds himself in the cold northwest. Hank had followed Bennett north through Wyoming, where he confronted his nemesis in a showdown in the main street of Cheyenne. Once again Hank was wounded and once again Bennett fled.
Following leads and trails further north, Hank heard Bennett had hopped an Iron Dragon locomotive in Billings, Montana on its way across the Rockies to Seattle! One lead mentioned Bennett was hoping to get to Spokane. Without hesitation Hank jumped the next train in pursuit.

Charlie is fascinated with mechanical gadgets. Her mother tried to put her foot down and send Charlotte to a refinement school in France, Charlotte fled.
She stowed away on the first train and was found fairly quickly, but when it was discovered that she had such a talent with mechanical work, they decided to keep her on and even started training her. She has been with the Iron Dragon railway since she was 14.

Bart "Lucky Aces" Kensington

LuckyAces

Gambler (played by Hunter)

Features: Can bluff and lie real well; Is a good shot with his pistols; A very good gambler of course; Okay in a fight, but doesn't take getting hit hard too well; Gets peoples' names wrong all the time.

Background:
Bart is gambler from Sacramento that reveals very little about his past, though he does mention how he won the Sadie River Millions (actually a few thousand dollars) when he gets the chance.
Bart is quite at home in saloons and gambling dens, not the wilderness. But he did accept the ultimate gamble/challenge after the bar-tender at his favourite dive, Henrieta’s Holesalers (yes, miss-spelling intended), read aloud from the The Tombstone Epitaph. It was an expose on the Great Northwest and mentioned a reward for proving the existence of bigfoot. Whilst the bar-tender laughed at such hogwash, Bart jumped up to defend the existence of such a creature.
Before he realized what he was doing, be blabbed about how he saw one in the woods as a kid that proved hysterical to those present. He then followed this by unwittingly accepting a bet (at least $1,000 dollars was wagered) to head north and prove it (and also collect the reward mention in The Tombstone Epitaph).
Once he had time to think about his rash decision, he initially decided to forget it. But the locals would not, so here he is, up north hoping to make the discovery of a life time (and a little cash along the way of course).

Personality: Likes to accept a challenge or even better, a bet; Likes to take chances (he might flip a coin to make a decision for eg).

Gaming Goals: Find a bigfoot. (He isn't sure what he is going to do if he does see one).

Important Items: Deck of cards.

Luther Brimley

LutherBrimley

Grifter (played by Jacob)

Features:

Background:
Luther grew up in the slums of the City of Lost Angels, poor and orphaned. He discovered the potential wealth that lay in the gullibility of others at the tender age of twelve, helpfully selling a clergyman a pocketwatch – the very same watch that he had recently "lost".
In the past couple of decades, Luther has been in the medicine business, roaming up and down the West Coast selling his elixirs – the most popular of which are his amazing Cure-Alls. While the range of colours these Cure-Alls come in is quite extensive, the range of symptoms they "cure" is far more limited.
An old and greedy thief, Luther’s main aim in life is to make a living off of other people’s stupidity. Hearing recently of a hunt for Big Foot (clearly a preposterous fairytale), Luther realised he could make a pretty penny from the expedition. Not only would there be ample opportunities to sell potions to dullards, but perhaps he could bring back a token or two from this mythical beast – a slightly altered buffalo hide, mayhap.
